Frequently Asked Questions

What is Making Tax Digital (MTD)?

MTD is HMRC's initiative requiring landlords with qualifying income to keep digital records and submit quarterly updates. MTD Landlord Services helps you comply with these requirements easily.

How do I connect my HMRC account?

Go to Settings > HMRC Connection and click "Connect to HMRC". You'll be redirected to HMRC's secure login page to authorise MTD Landlord Services to submit on your behalf.

Can I edit a submission after sending it to HMRC?

Quarterly updates can be amended by submitting a new update for the same period. However, once you submit your final declaration, changes require contacting HMRC directly.

What happens if HMRC rejects my submission?

We'll show you a clear error message explaining why. Common reasons include incorrect National Insurance Number or missing income source registration. Fix the issue and resubmit.

Is my data secure?

Yes. We use bank-level encryption (AES-256) for all sensitive data including your HMRC credentials. We never store your HMRC password - only secure OAuth tokens. See our Privacy Policy for details.

How do I add a co-owner to my property?

Go to your property details and click "Manage Owners". You can invite co-owners by email and set their ownership percentage. Each owner will see their share of income/expenses.

What are the MTD quarterly deadlines?

The UK tax year runs April 6 to April 5. Quarterly deadlines are typically:

  • Q1 (Apr-Jul): 7 August
  • Q2 (Jul-Oct): 7 November
  • Q3 (Oct-Jan): 7 February
  • Q4 (Jan-Apr): 7 May
